About the artist:
Won Seok Kim began his ceramic training at the Kyengi National College in Korea at the age of 20, coming to Australia in 1988 to undertake postgraduate studies at Sydney College of the Arts.
Since 1997 he has lived and worked at Mangrove Mountain, on the edge of the Dharug National Park north of Sydney.
About the work:
Drawing upon his Korean heritage, Kim’s work reinterprets, within an Australian context, a particular style of Korean ceramic ware called punch’ong.
Rich in metaphorical, metaphysical and cross-cultural references, his work employs the contemporary mode of the ‘installation’ to great effect.
